<p><strong>This Supposedly Healthy Food Will Make You Sick!<br />

<p>What’s up Triple P!!!!  Can you guess what the &#8220;healthy&#8221; food is that can make you sick?</p>
<p>I have been living in the Midwest for quite some time now as many of you know, and as you also know its VERY difficult to get any wild caught fish from the stores. Getting the high quality wild caught fish is only going to get more difficult in the future. This would be a great time to schedule out a few fishing trips to load up for the year. I always have patients ask me about the difference in wild fish and farm raised; which is the better option? So I thought this would be a great topic to dig into and put a list together of the good, bad, and ugly.</p>

<div class="wv-button-placeholder"><strong>Wild vs. Farmed Salmon<br />
</strong>Next time you are shopping for salmon take time and just visually inspect the difference in color between wild vs. farmed salmon. You will quickly notice the difference in color with the wild salmon presenting with a darker pink. This is due to wild salmon containing the antioxidant astaxanthin.  This anti-inflammatory molecule has a myriad of health benefits, including improving muscle endurance. Wild salmon are constantly eating a diet high in astaxanthin-rich plankton, while farmed salmon are getting a knockoff version that is produced from petrochemicals like coal.</p>
<p><strong>When We Eat Fish, We Consume All The Pollutants They Were Exposed To<br />
</strong></p>
<p>When we eat anything, we’re also going to be consuming all the pollutants that that animal, fruit, or vegetable has been exposed to. Let’s stick to the animals in this blog most importantly fish and in this case, we will stay focused on salmon. There is a pollutant known as dioxins, this is a toxin that is mostly released by incinerating trash. This harmful pollutant is stored in the fat tissue of animals; especially those of farm raised salmon and most times at a potentially dangerous degree. Continual exposure to dioxin has been linked to type 2 diabetes, heart disease, infertility, immune system issues, hormonal issues, and this list goes on and on.</p>
<p><strong>More Bad News About Farm Raised Salmon<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Unfortunately, this is only the start of the bad things found in farm raised salmon.  Another harmful contaminant is polychlorinated biphenyls or (PCBs), this is a chemical found in paint and plastics. There was a study done in the early 2000s that showed that the level of PCBs was up to 10x higher in farm raised fish as opposed to wild caught. PCBs have been linked with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and insulin resistance.</p>
<p>If you have read any of my other posts about supplementation then you already know that healthy fats are essential fuel for our bodies, but that not all fats are created equal. There are good fats (omega 3s) found in both wild and farmed salmon, but the farmed salmon is higher in overall fat and calories, but most importantly higher omega-6 fats. Omega-6s are HIGHLY inflammatory. Inflammation is a key player in almost every chronic illness there is including the likes of cancer, diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, and multiple forms of plaquing of the brain.</p>
<p><strong>Wild Salmon Is The Only Choice</strong></p>
<p>Wild Salmon is far more nutritious, full of greater vitamins and minerals per calorie than farmed fish. This major difference is due to the diet the salmon are eating. Wild Salmon eat other organisms found in its natural environment, whereas farmed fish are fed a higher fat processed diet to produce larger fish, which ultimately can sell for a bigger profit. Wild salmon are packed with calcium, iron, zinc, potassium, and omega 3 fatty acids.</p>
<p>My best advice is to seek out wild fish whenever possible; and be sure to check labels. Don’t get fooled by names like “Atlantic Salmon.” While you might think that would mean the fish is harvested from the Atlantic Ocean, almost all “Atlantic Salmon” are actually farm raised!!</p>

<p><strong>Coronavirus Quarantine Life Reboot Strategies</strong></p>
<div class="wv-button-placeholder">This is day…. who knows?!?!…. of this COVID quarantine. There aren’t but so many things to help you pass the time and ease your worries during this chaotic time in our lives. Online it seems like everyone is having a great time knocking off things on the honey-do list. Many of you have hit the wall and now the stress has caught up and your body is going into freeze mode. You feel like sleeping all day, more irritable than ever, binge watching series after series, eating ice cream and chips. If this describes the rut you are in or feel yourself falling into this quick read will hopefully be able to resurrect your mind from the doom and gloom that quarantine has become.</div>
<div></div>
<div class="wv-button-placeholder"><strong>What Are We doing?!?!?!<br />
</strong>Your brain is wired to release stress hormones into your body activating your sympathetic nervous system when you encounter danger. I want to introduce you to a topic on the sympathetic nervous system and its response to long term stress; fight, flight, or freeze. This response is getting your body ready to run or play dead, but it also reduces the activity in your brain responsible for logical thinking, decision making, and moderation. The fear from this global pandemic has begun to switch your rational brain off, and on comes the panic brain saying, <strong>“PLAY DEAD, EAT FOOD, FIGHT ANYONE WHO LOOKS AT YOU THE WRONG WAY.”</strong> This response is dissociating you from yourself finding things to focus on besides what is going on in the six inches between your ears. This dissociation is making a lot of people feel disconnected and helpless in their current situation. This panic with its increase in stress hormones are actually lowering your immunity and increasing inflammation.<strong>No Negative Self-Talk!<br />
</strong>Now we know we can’t begin to shame ourselves or others with more negative self-talk about how lazy or unproductive we have become. These emotions of shame and guilt will increase the very stress hormones that have gotten us into this situation to begin with and invoke even more panic in the prefrontal cortex of your brain. So, what do we do?</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>BREATHE!!!!</strong> Take breaths in and very slow breaths out to start to calm your body and mind. Keep your eyes open and pay attention to things we take for granted. What trees are blooming, watch the squirrels run, can you see or hear anything else?? Go into meditation taking those negative thoughts and emotions and letting them flow over your body, now start to think about all the good you have in your life, and more so all the good you will create in the future. Try a guided meditation on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">YouTube</a>, or apps like <a href="https://www.headspace.com/headspace-meditation-app" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">headspace</a> and <a href="https://insighttimer.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">insight timer</a>.</li>
<li>Seize control over the things you can control to create some joy during this journey through COVID. If you are a great cook, cook your specialty for dinner one night and make enough to deliver some to your friends or neighbors. Write someone a thoughtful letter you haven’t connected with in the past, I’m sure they need to hear some calming words right now. Read a book you have been putting off and get a friend to read the same book and you can recap the chapters together daily.</li>
<li>If you haven’t made the time to start a daily ritual to set yourself up for success, why wait any longer? START NOW! Begin with setting your affirmations, meditating, gratitude journaling, finally set those goals on paper that you can reflect on daily.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Your Personal Growth<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Your personal growth now will strengthen your body and calm your brain to get away from all the fear that has overcome your body. If you begin to take care of these things now, when the time comes for “real” life to resume normal scheduled programming you will be set up for even greater success, happiness, and prosperity than before this started. Let’s think of this time as a self-incubation time where we are preparing to go out and crush all our goals for ourselves, and the world.</p>

<p><strong>5 Ways To Beat The Coronavirus<br />
</strong></p>
<p>After the last week of hearing the panic over the <a href="https://www.who.int/dg/speeches/detail/who-director-general-s-opening-remarks-at-the-media-briefing-on-covid-19---3-march-2020" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">coronavirus</a> I thought it was time to write a blog expressing why everyone should “CALM” down, and share some ways to protect your body from contracting not only coronavirus, but all viruses. I was bombarded with questions from patients during the last week as well saying doc what should I do to defend myself from contracting this. What is ironic to me during this news frenzy is they fail to show the fact that while it is sad that around 3,000 deaths have been noted worldwide; last year alone obesity killed more than 300,000 people. So why so much worry about this “new” virus and almost no discussion about the obesity epidemic in the United States? Well it probably wouldn’t get as many views or clicks for one, and just like obesity, preventing ourselves from contracting a virus follows many of the same simple lifestyle hacks.</p>
<p><strong>1.  Decrease/Avoid Sugar &#038; Carbs<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Just like cancers, viruses LOVE being fed sugar. Sugar depletes your body from minerals and nutrients that are critical in keeping your immune system up with enough ability to fight off a harm to our bodies. Sugar feeds parasites in your body which lead to abnormal tissue and cancerous growth. To name a few of the most important that are affected by sugar intake are vitamin C, zinc, and <a href="https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fimmu.2017.01239/full" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">glutathione</a>; all which are very powerful antioxidants the body uses to rid the body of harmful toxins. </p>
<p>There is a huge link between sugar, <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5707683/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">vitamin C</a>, and immune function which was discovered back in the 1970s. This research by Dr. John Ely found that sugar and vitamin C have a VERY similar chemical make-up. So when you eat that sugar it spikes a hormone from the pancreas called insulin, and the signaling begins to get into your cells. Leaving vitamin C and sugar competing for the same sites in your immune system. The unfortunate part is vitamin C isn’t very good at competition and loses out to sugar restricting the vitamin C needed in your cells to detoxify and boost your immune system. Vitamin C therefore cannot do its job at handling oxidative stress needed to fight pathogens that your body is in contact with each and every day (i.e. viruses, bacteria, and other organisms that attack your body). In turn you&#8217;re at risk to contracting illnesses and diseases.</p>
<p>Take your Vitamin C daily 2 grams as maintenance dose, and increase to 3-4 grams, 2-4 times a day when feeling under the weather.</p>
<p>Zinc should be taken if you are sick every 2 ours until you feel better.</p>
<p><strong>2.  Get enough sleep<br />
</strong></p>
<p>The science shows us that for our bodies to fully function at peak health we need 8 hours of sleep. <a href="https://www.sleepfoundation.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The National sleep foundation</a> found that 40 percent of Americans get 6 hours or less a night and 58% of teens. Sleep is an essential nutrient as it allows your body to rest, repair, and recover. Consistent sleep deprivation will lead to fatigue, reduced immune response, and increased inflammation to name a few. </p>
<p>While we sleep our body goes through an internal transformation. Sleep will detoxify the cells of our body and brain via the lymphatic system and transference of cerebral spinal fluid to “clean up” the damage that has been done. Detoxifying metabolic waste, rebuilding neurons and their connections, resetting the balance of neurotransmitters, and improving receptor site sensitivity.</p>
<p><strong>3.  Drink “clean” water and plenty of it<br />
</strong></p>
<p>The average recommendation here is half of your body weight in ounces since your body is made up of 80% water, and 90% of your nervous system is made from water. Drinking proper amounts of water is critical for all organ function, immune system, circulation, and nervous system function. You can research your areas municipality and see their water testing results which will always show you high amounts of chlorine, arsenic, fluoride, and heavy metals; all of which are very harmful to our bodies destroying the immune systems ability to function. Drinking clean water from a reverse osmosis system is what we use in our house and has been shown to completely clean any water of those terrible toxins. Just to give you an idea the last time I checked ours there was trace amounts of 34 different pharmaceutical drugs found in the city drinking water.</p>
<p><strong>4.  Get outdoors<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Our ancestors the healthiest people in the history of mankind spent the majority of their lives outdoors, and this is a big reason why they were so healthy, not dying of chronic diseases and illnesses. Americans now spend 90% of their day inside; going to jobs and schools indoors, shopping indoor or online from the couch, attending indoor events, etc.  We have this problem as well due to the terrible winters we experience in the Midwest, or other weather conditions that are too severe to be outside. Robbing the body of essential nutrients vitamin D from the sun, fresh air, and electrons from the ground; and also increasing exposure to indoor pollutants.</p>
<p>Supplementing with vitamin D is easy cheap and of the utmost importance.</p>
<p><strong>5.  Keep stress low<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Keeping stress down is easier said than done for most, but you cannot be angry or upset and be living in an attitude of gratitude. Writing down 3 things you are thankful for to start the day, and reviewing them throughout the day is a great way to keep stress at bay. Meditation to slow your mind helps focus on happiness along with helping your bodies cells and organs to work perfectly to safeguard you against any harm. Saying daily affirmations to reaffirm all the good things about yourself, and your life makes a big difference. Rid your circle of toxic negative people that drag down your mood and drive stress. Workout regularly for your brain to release the “feel good hormones” dopamine and serotonin to keep yourself in a good positive mood, as well as your body functioning at its peak.</p>
<p><strong>Final Thoughts on The CoronaVirus<br />
</strong><br />
While the coronavirus sounds scary, more and more it is looking like people in their 70s and older are having the most difficult time.  Children seem to be doing okay, it is people with compromised immune systems, or older people who&#8217;s immune systems in particular their lungs, have weakened that appear to be having the most difficult time.  Follow these simple steps to keep your immune system strong, and even in the rare event that you contract the virus, your immune system will most likely handle it like any other flu virus.</p>

<p><strong>Stop Drinking This Now!!!  It Can Kill You!<br />
</strong></p>
<p>So being in full time practice and taking care of a large number of patients, I am hearing more frequently than ever, “Hey Doc I’m getting healthy I switched to diet soda!”. So this makes sense in a person&#8217;s head because hey less “sugar, calories” must be good right? WRONG!!!! The problem is now you&#8217;re just switching one set of problems for another. The thing is this switch may offer a short term “cut” in calories but believe me the body won’t be fooled for long. The research is astounding that your body reacts to non-nutritive foods, including but not limited to artificial sweeteners, in ways that are going to hurt your health no matter what.</p>
<p>How Deadly is Diet Soda you ask? Take a Look!</p>
<p>Research has found that just one serving of an artificially sweetened drink per day is associated with an 8–13% higher risk of type 2 diabetes (<a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26199070" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">PubMed Central</a>). </p>
<p>A review of four studies including 227,254 people found that for each serving of artificially sweetened beverage per day, there is a 9% increased risk of high blood pressure. Other studies have found similar results (<a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26869455" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">PubMedCentral 2</a>).</p>
<p>In a population-based cohort study of 451,743 individuals from 10 countries in Europe, greater consumption of total, sugar-sweetened, and artificially sweetened soft drinks was associated with a higher risk of all-cause mortality. Consumption of artificially sweetened soft drinks was positively associated with deaths from circulatory diseases, and sugar-sweetened soft drinks were associated with deaths from digestive diseases. (<a href="https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamainternalmedicine/article-abstract/2749350?guestAccessKey=b99410a9-8afc-4953-b328-bbb2620dfacd&#038;utm_source=For_The_Media&#038;utm_medium=referral&#038;utm_campaign=ftm_links&#038;utm_content=tfl&#038;utm_term=090319&#038;appId=scweb" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">JAMA Internal Medicine</a>)</p>
<p><strong>Diet Soda = Weight Gain<br />
</strong></p>
<p>The brain reacts the same exact way to artificial sweeteners as it does to sugar. Ingesting these frequently will drive the bodies need for high calorie sugary treats such as that box of cookies in the break room; in turn putting the person at greater risk of weight gains along with binge eating to fill the void left in the brain.</p>
<p>After going through the research it also shows us that those switching to diet sodas were more likely to consume more higher calorie food than overweight people who drank regular soda. Those drinking the diet soda even had higher BMI than the ones that drank regular soda. </p>
<p><strong>Diet Soda Causes Insulin Confusion<br />
</strong></p>

<p>The brain is hardwired to associate “sweet” with calories. The body reacts to this by driving your body’s release of insulin as sugars chaperone to the cells to create fuel. When artificial sweeteners were consumed like sucralose for example there were increases in both insulin and blood glucose levels. Frequent rises in these have been clearly linked to insulin resistance and greater risk for type 2 diabetes; along with an increased risk of stroke.</p>
<p>Those who drink diet soda actually have higher activity in the area of the brain associated with desire to consume foods high in fat and sugar. There is a direct correlation between diet soda consumption and the alteration of the brain&#8217;s sweet sensing reward center. This clearly shows there will be an increase in cravings for high calorie “very unhealthy, non-nutritious foods”.</p>
<p><strong>Regular Soda Is Horrible For You Too<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Some of you out there reading this are saying well hey it must be better to just drink regular soda…….. WRONG AGAIN!!!!! Sugar even when its “real” is going to be harmful in many ways one of which is massively increasing the amount of overall body inflammation. If you are a caffeine junkie and this is why you tell yourself you are drinking any type of soda than you are better of with a plain coffee or a tea. If you are looking for some type of “flavor” try freezing raspberries, cucumber, mint, lemon or lime ice cubs to give you a hint of sweetness. </p>
<p>Quitting any type of habit is never an easy thing but kicking this one will have a profound overall increase in your health and happiness. Remember when your why is big enough behind anything you do in your life then those choices become much easier! </p>
<p>So Stop DRINKING SODA&#8230;Diet or Otherwise&#8230;so you can stick around long enough to reach your TriplePLife&#8230;</p>

<p><strong>4 Ways To Stay Motivated To Stay Fit<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Anyone try to talk themselves out of exercise before? Of course you have, we are programmed to avoid the pain and discomfort of putting our bodies through this stress. In all actuality we are designed to move it is an essential nutrient to increase our body and brain function every day. I began working out as many of you will relate in order to be able to perform at a higher level in my favorite sport. As we grow older, we don’t have so much of the sporting competition and instead the competition becomes staying healthy for an optimal life to be lived. The healthier we are we can avoid injuries, increase mood, set an example for our family, increase our immune system, and just have a better overall sense of well-being. As the winter draws near with shorter days, earlier nights, and more of the cold weather we all love begins to be another layer on lack of motivation to be physically active. So, here are a few simple steps to keep ourselves motivated to keep our bodies in the best shape possible.</p>
<p>What is your way for working out? We all have one whether we have reflected as to what that is or not is a completely different story. It can be as simple as I want to have a sexier body, to live longer, to compete in an event. This is a great starting point but WHY? Why do we want a sexier body, to live longer, to complete an event? Use the 7 layers deep exercise and peel the layers of the onion back far enough that your way brings an emotional change to your body. Then this why will be your leverage to get up and do the things to bring you closer to your goals each day. Some examples can be to live a long and healthy life to be able to play with my kids or grandkids. To be able to attract a significant other. To feel better about myself and give me the confidence to live the life of my dreams. It doesn’t matter what your why is; it only matters that you find out WHAT your WHY is!!</p>
<p><strong>1. Set A Goal<br />
</strong></p>
<p>There is nothing more motivating than the Spartan race, marathon, 5k or any fitness event circled on your calendar. So, if these are things you do or want to start participating in register early and modify your workouts to have you ready to crush it on race day.</p>
<p>The goal being set doesn’t’ have to be participating in an event, but maybe getting ready for someone’s wedding day, or fitting into your favorite pair of jeans again. Whatever the goal is the point is to have it written and read this goal daily upon waking and throughout the day when motivation begins to waver. </p>
<p><strong>2. Schedule Times/Days<br />
</strong></p>
<p>You must dig deep and realistically be able to commit to a certain number of days and times per week that you KNOW without question you are going to commit to exercise only. Some of the most committed to exercise do so before the sun comes up or late night after work and kids go down to bed. Sit down with your schedule and figure out where this fits best in your life and what you will need to reach your goal. Say you have a set 3 day schedule that you can hit each and every week, but there are a few other days that if things go a certain way you will be able to get another workout in….GREAT! Those extra days are just icing on the cake.</p>
<p>Whatever you do; DO NOT just expect this to happen in your day, you must schedule these things, because chances are that last minute invitation will come along, the weather will foil a bike ride, or the kids won’t nap. Use your calendar, set up daycare on certain days, use your phone to set reminders, or task related apps. This hour must be set in stone in your calendar just as the business meetings you have set, or client calls, etc. Remember if we fail to plan, we plan to fail!!</p>
<p><strong>3. Change It Up<br />
</strong></p>
<p>It’s in our DNA that we need change to keep our interest and motivation through life. So, make sure you are having fun with whatever you set to do for your exercise. Join a gym with alternating class schedules so the content changes, run trails that change with scenery, subscribe to an online workout program that changes every so often.</p>
<p>Not only will the variety of exercises or types of workouts keep you mentally engaged; it will also challenge your body in different ways to continue to improve and break through plateaus. Whatever you choose to do just make sure you push it hard for the time you have scheduled for this, so you get the most out of your time.</p>
<p><strong>4. Exercise With Another Person Or A Group<br />
</strong></p>
<p>The research has clearly shown that for people to stick long term to fitness they need encouragement and accountability from others, and even some friendly competition. If this means hiring a trainer, asking a friend to join you, social media group, join a gym, etc. We can always accomplish more as part of a team than individually.</p>
<p>This should be someone or somewhere that calls you to check in on your workouts, or if you’ve missed one, or aren’t reaching the goals you set for yourself. People lose up to 3x the amount of weight when having an accountability partner as compared to going it alone. </p>
<p>Now use these tools and stay motivated to reach your triple P LIFE!!</p>

<p><strong>The Silent, Invisible Environmental Killer<br />
</strong></p>
<p>There are so many things in the world we live in that we can see or touch that we know can damage our bodies and destroy our overall health. There is one thing that is little talked about but takes a small drip approach over time to hurt our bodies ability to function properly and contributes to many people’s inability to live long healthy lives. This long-term killer is called EMF. What is that?? It is ElectroMagnetic Fields which are comprised of electric and magnetic fields perpendicular to each other, which travel together in an invisible wave form. I am in no way an expert of this area, but after extensive hours of research I feel confident in the information I have included in this writing.</p>
<p><strong>Two Types of EMF<br />
</strong></p>
<p>EMF’s come in two different types low and high frequency. You may be familiar with some of the high frequency contributors which have higher frequency than visible light and are ionizing radiation such as X-rays, Ultraviolet (UV) light, and gamma rays. There is no question that too much exposure to one of these can create health problems. . If we stay out in the sun too long, we get sunburned from prolonged UV exposure.</p>
<p>Health effects of low frequency EMF radiation are more controversial for many reasons:</p>
<p>First, symptoms due to use of microwave ovens, smart meters, WiFi, cell phones, etc. can be inconspicuous at first, but they may become noticeable over time rather than immediately.</p>
<p>Second, the electronic and telecommunication industries have strong financial interests in consumers not being aware of potential harm from using their products.</p>
<p><strong>The human body is sophisticated Electromagnetic Machine<br />
</strong></p>
<p>We have long known that the human body is a sophisticated electromagnetic system. Our nervous system and our heart run on electricity, which explains why we can shock a dead heart into life using an electric shock machine called a defibrillator. Back in 1969, Dr. David Cohen, professor of Physics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology was able to detect the magnetic fields from the human heart and brain (<a href="https://www.nmr.mgh.harvard.edu/news/141119/45-years-of-biomagnetism-and-squid">source</a>).</p>
<p>It is important to note, also, mitochondria and liver enzymes also operate based on electrical conductivity and light energy (<a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK21063/">source 1</a>, <a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0304416506002133">source 2</a>).</p>
<p>Naturally, we have evolved with the natural EMFs, i.e. that of the earth and the sun which synch with our healthy biological rhythms. Earth has its own magnetic field, which is why we can always use a compass to find the north pole no matter where we are. Earth’s EMF is called the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schumann_resonances">Schumann resonance </a>(7.83 Hz). The sun is a big source of natural EMFs, including visible light and UV radiation.</p>
<p><strong>Human EMF is weak in comparison<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Our own electromagnetic signals are very weak compared to the man-made EMFs. Exposure to man-made EMFs can interfere with the electromagnetic systems inside of our bodies. Specifically, the brain, the heart, and mitochondria can be particularly susceptible to EMF interference. In addition, because our own biology can get disrupted, EMF exposure can worsen inflammatory problems.</p>
<p><strong>SYMPTOMS Related to EMF Exposure</strong></p>
<p>Chronic high levels of low frequency EMF exposure can result in:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Insomnia</strong></li>
<li><strong>Anxiety</strong></li>
<li><strong>Depression</strong></li>
<li><strong>Brain fog</strong></li>
<li><strong>Dizziness and vertigo</strong></li>
<li><strong>Frequent illnesses</strong></li>
<li><strong>HPA axis dysfunction (also known as adrenal fatigue)</strong></li>
<li><strong>Hormone imbalances</strong></li>
<li><strong>Cancer or increased in cancer risk</strong></li>
</ul>
<p><strong>HOW TO AVOID EXPOSURE<br />
</strong></p>
<p>So the next question is how can I avoid or at least mitigate the effects that EMF’s have on our health? I put together some things you can do to begin to reduce the load of EMF’s in our day to day lives. None of us are going to be able to avoid this exposure on a daily basis since much of our lives revolve around the technological advances that have brought more EMF’s into our lives, but give these a try at home and be confident that you are doing all you can to protect yourself and your family from this exposure.</p>
<p><strong>Avoid Living Near Strong Sources of EMF Radiation</strong></p>
<p>Very strong sources of EMF radiation can present significant health risks. These include smart meters, radio stations, electrical generators, power lines, and electrified train tracks. An Italian study found that adults and children who live within 3 km of a high-power radio station are at a higher risk of developing leukemia than others (<a href="https://academic.oup.com/aje/article/155/12/1096/123184">source</a>). Therefore, you want to consider having these EMF sources removed or moving away from them.</p>
<p><strong>Limit EMF Exposure At Home</strong></p>
<p>It may not be possible to avoid using electricity and devices that generate EMFs, but it is possible to reduce EMF exposure. This is particularly important in the bedrooms or when sleeping. We can reduce EMF exposure by:</p>
<ul>
<li>Keeping appliances and devices off, or on airplane mode as much as possible</li>
<li>Hard wire internet connections, rather than using WiFi</li>
<li>If WiFi use is necessary, only turn it on when in use and turn off the WiFi router at night</li>
<li>Hard wire computer peripherals rather than using wireless or Bluetooth connections</li>
<li>Ensure that your homes <a href="https://emwatch.com/house-wiring-radiation/">electrical wiring is done properly</a>to minimize EMFs</li>
<li>Keep electronic devices, i.e. cell phones, tablets, and computers away from your body. This includes using head phones to make calls instead of placing the phones near your ear to speak</li>
<li>Sleep away from circuit breakers or large appliances that run overnight, including if the appliance is on the other side of the wall</li>
<li>Use protection tools such as <a href="https://wellnessmama.com/go/defender/">Defender Pad </a>under your laptop, and EMF shields for cell phone</li>
<li>Filter out dirty electricity using <a href="https://greenwavefilters.com/partners/7/?v=7516fd43adaa">dirty electricity filters</a></li>
</ul>
<p>Minimize use of digital devices when possible. Even better, <a href="https://wellnessmama.com/60497/digital-day-off/">take regular digital detoxes.</a></p>
<p><strong>Mitigate Negative Health Effects of EMF Exposure</strong></p>
<p>With high coverage of cell phone and power line networks, it is not possible to completely avoid man-made EMF exposure. In addition to taking steps to reduce EMF exposure, we can mitigate the negative effects by</p>
<ul>
<li><a href="https://wellnessmama.com/5600/earthing-grounding/">Grounding</a>– it allows our bodies to neutralize positive ions from electronic devices and re-synchronize with the Schumann resonance.</li>
<li>Exposures to negative ions such as being near moving water, <a href="https://wellnessmama.com/23569/himalayan-salt-lamp/">Himalayan salt lamp</a>, or a negative ion generator can mitigate negative effects of exposure to EMF radiation.</li>
</ul>
<p>Eating a nutritious diet high in antioxidants can help mitigate some oxidative stress from EMF exposure.</p>
